How to Play Gem Rocker When You Don’t Have an Internet Connection

By: Editorial Staff

Gem Rocker is a new match three game that is fun and relaxing to play. It’s simplicity and lack of in-app purchase pushing makes it a great choice to play when you just want to waste some time on the bus or standing in line at the DMV. The problem is that like most games, Gem Rocker requires a constant internet connection. This isn’t always possible if you don’t use wifi or you live in the middle of nowhere without a stable connection.

You can solve the problem by using tethering. Learn how to tether your Android phone to your tablet so you can play Gem Rocker when you don’t have an internet connection.

What is Tethering?

Tethering is when you turn your phone into a modem and use its internet connection on another device. If your phone is constantly linked up to the Internet through a data plan you can use that connection on your tablet. There are a few ways to do this, including turning your phone into a wifi hotspot, syncing through Bluetooth, or connecting using a USB cable.

All three will allow you to play Gem Rocker on your tablet by providing an Internet connection the tablet.

Keep in mind that some phone companies require you to pay extra for tethering. If you follow these steps to tether you tablet to you phone and find they don’t work then you probably need to pay for tethering. Look into your phone company to find out. If you do need to pay then considering us an app/program such as PdaNet (it’s free!) that will let you do this without bothering your phone provider.

Turning Your Phone Into a Wifi Hotspot

If your tablet can connect to wifi but you aren’t in a place where there is wifi access you can use your phone as a hotspot. Not all phones have this feature so if yours doesn’t then move on to the next option.

  1. Go to settings on your phone.
  2. Under Wire Networks tap “more…”
  3. Tap the option for Tethering and Portable Hotspots.
  4. Toggle the option for Portable Hotspots on
  5. Tap “Set up Wifi Hotspot.”
  6. Enter the information required, including a name, password, and other security information.
  7. Tap “Save.”
  8. Go to the Wifi settings on your tablet. You will see the hotspot name as available.
  9. Tap the hotspot name and enter the password.
  10. You are now connected to the Internet.

Connecting to Your Android Phone Using Bluetooth

If both your Android phone and tablet have Bluetooth capability then you can tether them using that feature. To sync your tablet to your Android phone you need to make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. This is found under settings. Turning it on makes your tablet discoverable by other devices. You then need to turn on Bluetooth on your phone within settings. Then tap to “Search for devices.” You tablet should appear. Tap on the tablet to pair them. You will be prompted to make sure a passcode is the name on both devices. If it is the same choose to “pair.”

Once your tablet and phone are paired through Bluetooth you can now tether them to use the Internet to play Gem Rocker.

  1. Open Settings on your tablet.
  2. Tap “more…”
  3. Tap on the Tethering and Portable Hotspot option.
  4. Tap on “Bluetooth Tethering” to turn on the feature. You are now connected to the Internet on your tablet.

Connect To the Internet Using USB Cable

Your last option to connect to the Internet on your tablet using your Android phone is to use a USB cable. This option is clunkier because of the cable but doesn’t use up power on your phone as quickly as Bluetooth. You do need a USB cable for this. The one that comes with your tablet or phone has one mini USB end and one regular USB end to connect to a PC. You need one with two mini USB ends to connect phone to tablet. You can purchase a new mini USB to mini USB cable or purchase an adapter that has several different sized USB ends.

  1. Attach the tablet to the phone using the mini USB cable.
  2. On the tablet you will be asked to connect as media device or camera. It doesn’t matter which one you choose. Just tap one to get the notification out of the way.
  3. Go into Settings.
  4. Tap “more…” under wireless networks.
  5. Tap on the Tethering and Portable Hotspot option.
  6. Tap on “USB Tethering.” You are now connected to the Internet on your tablet.

Connecting to Internet With Rooted Device

You probably noticed that all three options required the tethering feature under Settings. If your phone doesn’t have that option because the phone company removed it to make you pay for it then you might think you are out of like. This isn’t true, though. You do still have a way to connect your tablet to the Internet through your phone or even through your PC.

The last option does require a rooted device. Rooting is a hack that lets you have administrator privileges on your phone and make changes you wouldn’t normally be allowed to make. If you root your phone it will void the warranty.

If you want to root your phone or already have a rooted phone then you can follow several steps to use your computer or phone’s Internet on your tablet. You need a special app that is free to use and a USB cable to connect your tablet to your phone or your PC. This isn’t the easiest option but might be your only option if your device doesn’t allow tethering.

You can now play Gem Rocker on your tablet when you don’t have an Internet connection. Use your phone that does have an Internet connection through a data plan and tether your tablet to it to use the Internet. You can play Gem Rocker and any other app that requires Internet access.

Gem Rocker requires a constant Internet connection to play. You can tether your tablet to your phone and use its Internet connection through a data plan to get on the Internet and play Gem Rocker.
