Nothing keeps people coming back to an experience like offering fresh, new rewards, and Snapchat learned that lesson when it introduced its “Trophy Case” feature. Right on the cusp of the new year, the popular app introduced a new slew of some of their best trophies, which we’ll show you how to unlock all the trophies in 2016.
It’s pretty easy to find oneself knee-deep in Snapchat features. The popular social media platform has built upon its original foundation so extensively that it wouldn’t even be recognizable as the same app if it weren’t just as focused and rewarding as it originally was when it was introduced to the world. The basic function of Snapchat is only made better through all of these additions: the ability for users to concoct media-rich posts to share with their circle of friends, posts which “self-destruct” after only a moment.
This mainstay of Snapchat has been complemented by features such as Stories, Filters, Lenses, and some of the most robust messaging and video calling software available in free mobile applications. All of these, and more, consistently contribute to the whole point of the app: Snaps!
When the Trophy Case hit the scene, then, the app was already in great shape. Hundreds of millions of users, as well as dozens of big-name celebrities, take advantage of Snapchat’s offerings on a regular basis. That user retention and popularity only became greater when the Snapchat team introduced a method of rewarding users for all of their time spent in the app.
Here’s how trophies work: from the main Snapchat menu, a small trophy icon will lead you to your entire trophy case. Depending on how much activity you’ve already logged in the Snapchat app, it’s possible that you already have several trophies unlocked, but regardless of that, you’ll find all of them here. Within Snapchat, there’s no way to determine which trophies you’re missing, how to unlock them, or what activities you should be doing more of in order to get more trophies.
It’s all a mystery, and that’s part of the fun! However, if that bit of mystery is not a great deal of fun for you, there are plenty of resources available that will tell exactly what you’ll have to do in order to unlock trophies. That’s what our guide is going to illuminate for you momentarily.
While many of Snapchat’s trophies can be earned quickly, and through simple actions, some of them will require you to rack up significant amounts of time and activity in Snapchat. Thankfully, many of the trophies added in December of 2015 (that we’re still hunting for and earning in 2016), are quite a lot easier to find than those asking you to get hundreds and thousands of points tallied to your Snapchat score. Let’s take a look at the newbie additions right now, so that you can start filling up your trophy case!
Newest Snapchat Trophies
Though we haven’t seen any new trophies added in any of Snapchat’s 2016 updates, that very likely only means that we’re going to see some soon. It’s only a matter of time before Snapchatters start collecting all of the currently available trophies, and so it will be up to the team to add new ones.
As stated above, some of these are fairly simple to obtain, and as such, they may already be in your trophy case! If you weren’t sure how these particular trophies showed up, our detailed explanations will tell you just that.
“Email? Since when did Snapchat have email support?” Fortunately, though it’s an honest curiosity, you won’t have to delve deep into any new features or options in order to earn this trophy. Instead, all that you’ll have to do is confirm your email address with Snapchat!
This process was likely started when you first made your account since a registered email address was required to do so. If you need a helping hand completing it, or if you’ve lost the original authentication email, you can send another from within your Snapchat settings! Even though you did give the app an email address when initially making your profile, that extra factor of authentication within the email that Snapchat sent you is necessary for getting your hands on this trophy.
That trick with email authentication? It’s back again, only this time you’re going to earn a trophy from verifying your phone number! This was an optional piece of information beforehand, but the only way that you can get this trophy is to follow it through.
You’ll be verifying a mobile phone number, so the Snapchat app will send you an SMS message. You’ll acknowledge receiving it–thereby verifying your phone number–by putting in the message’s several-digit code within Snapchat. Voila! Trophy!
Even though Snapchat has excellent video calling capabilities now, they were added before this trophy was released. They’re only connected by the fact that you’ll want to verify your phone number before using that handy new feature.
Many, many users have long awaited the ability to permanently capture those Snaps that disappear after only several seconds of existence. Though it’d be difficult to do with video and those lenses and frames that have constant animation might not transfer as well, did you realize that you can use your mobile device to simply take a screenshot? When you do, it’s no different than taking a photo of whatever is on your screen at the time. If that happens to be a Snap, the image of it will be saved directly to your device’s camera roll or gallery.
How you take that screenshot is going to be different, depending on whether you’re using an iOS or Android device.
- iOS users: Hold down the “Lock” button and simultaneously press the “Home” button. You should hear a sound similar to a camera’s shutter, which means that your screenshot has been saved!
- Android users: On Android devices, you’ll want to hold down the “Volume Down” key and press the “Power” button. Similar to iOS devices, you’ll hear a shutter sound if it was successful!
Now, how about that trophy? If you’ve followed the above instructions and took a screenshot of a Snap, the trophy is yours! The “happy devil” comes from taking a single screenshot.
Someone turned the happy devil’s smile upside down, and that probably happened when they fulfilled the requirements for this trophy all in one go. Whereas the happy devil required users to only take a single screenshot of a Snap, the sad devil will require 10!
Is that really why he’s frowning? We’ll never know, but if you use the screenshot function on your phone to cumulatively take 10 captures of Snaps, you’ll be awarded this trophy.
Okay, so maybe we do have some idea of why the sad devil is frowning. This guy doesn’t look all that happier, and that’s probably because you earn him after taking 50 combined screenshots of Snaps. If I did that in one entire stretch, I’d likely be red in the face, too.
While this is certainly a more ambition-rewarding trophy, it’s not terribly out of reach. Unlike some of the previous trophies which required you to have massive numbers in your Snapchat score, this trophy isn’t dependent upon other Snapchatters. Take your 50 screenshots, and you’ll have earned the “red mask.”
We all know about the Stories feature, right? Compounding on the ways that Snapchat allows people to take media and use it to create a narrative for moments in their lives, Stories are all about development over a prolonged period of time. Local Stories and Live Stories welcome your contribution through individual Snaps targeted towards specific events occurring near you.
Do it once, and you’ll net yourself a radio. Emblematic of the entertainment days of olde, the radio trophy lets you know that you have a solid grasp on the Local and Live Stories features.
Feel like you’re doing a good job of trending local events through Snapchat, are you? If you’re a regular Live Story contributor with your Snaps, then this trophy is most definitely for you. After you’ve earned your greenhorn badge with the radio trophy, you can snag a “clapper board” trophy by doing it 10 more times.
While this isn’t a particularly grueling task, it will mean finding an ongoing Story to contribute to!
Beep boop. What better symbolizes the digital era than the fax machine? Okay, so I’m slightly guilty of exaggeration, but this trophy does lend to your credibility as a regular Snapchatter. In order to get your hands on it, you’re going to have to scan 5 Snapcodes.
Now, keep in mind that those Snapcodes don’t have to be right in front of you, belonging to the person next to you on the bus. Instead, you can take advantage of the fact that many popular musicians, actors, and other artists maintain an active Snapchat presence, and invite you to follow them by sharing their Snapcodes. See where I’m going? Dig a few up online, scan, and you’ll have your very own trophy case fax machine!
That wraps up the most recent round of available trophies in Snapchat, as of April 2016. While more are certainly on the way, let us know which ones are best by posting in the comments below!
