You’ve got your shiny new iPhone, Android, Mac, or PC and want to start using it. You set it up with all of the passwords, email accounts, bookmarks, pictures, music, etc.
But now, you want to start using some of the apps that you’ve heard about and that your friends use. However, sometimes it’s a bit more difficult than you would initially think to get everything setup, to download, sign up, and login to your account without ever doing it before.
That’s where I come in. This guide will teach you everything you need to know about the Kik login process, tricks to make the process go more smoothly and quicker, and ways to use the app on all of your devices. That way, all these processes will just disappear, and you’ll be able to focus on instant messaging with your friends—which is what you want to be doing!
I will walk you through various devices, from smartphones to tablets to computers and make sure you’re on track to login to Kik Messenger without any troubles.
“An iPod, a phone, an internet mobile communicator… these are NOT three separate devices! And we are calling it iPhone! Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone. And here it is.” – Steve Jobs
What is Kik Messenger?
Whether you’ve heard of Kik or not, you likely know the concept. Have you ever sent a text message? If so, then you know what Kik is all about and the key reason why it’s so commonly used. Basically, it’s text messaging without the fees that go along with texting over AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile’s network. Pretty fancy, right?
The way it works is that Kik uses your local WiFi connection or your cellular data to send texts to anyone else with the app installed. That’s the primary downside, that you can only message other people with the app, unlike regular text messages.
However, Kik goes above and beyond standard functionality for the messaging apps native to most phones: In addition to texting, you can create group texts, send videos, audio, pictures to your friends. You can buy and trade Kik stickers that are cool and fancy emoji or emoticons. You can even draw sketches on the screen of your iPhone or Android and send your sketch to a friend.
Also, since Kik is its own service, and isn’t tied to your phone number, you don’t need phone numbers in order to talk to somebody on it. Made a new friend, but aren’t sure about giving them your digits just yet? You can give them your Kik username, and they can communicate with you through the app.
Kik itself is free, but the app offers all sorts of neat upgrades as in-app purchases: personalize your experience by sending your friends stickers of characters from South Park, Adventure Time, or a number of other popular shows.
Kik Login On iPhone
The first guide will be a tutorial on how to login to Kik using your iPhone. The app was primarily built for the iPhone and Android devices so you will see that the whole setup process is easy and straight to the point. That’s because there has been a lot of development work on the app’s developers to make sure it runs smoothly and without any bugs.
The tips below work no matter if you have the new iPhone 6, an older iPhone 5 or even iPhone 4. These will work on older iOS operating systems or the newest iOS 8. However, if you have not upgraded to the newest iOS you may not be able to use all of the features so I suggest you upgrade. It’s free! And unless your phone is ancient, there’s no reason not to. Simply go to “Settings”, then “General”, then tap “Software Update” to get the newest operating system installed.
Now, let’s get into the tutorial:
- The first thing to do, and you may have already done this, but you will need to download Kik onto your iPhone.
- Open the phone and tap on the App Store.
- Search for Kik Messenger and tap the download button next to the first result.
- Once it’s downloaded, find it on your home screen and tap the app to open.
There are two different ways to login depending on whether you have to sign up or you can login straight to the app. If you have not signed up yet, tap the Register button, then fill in your name, desired short name, email, password, birthday, and phone number. Once you do all of this you will click next and be finished with the registration process. Make sure you let Kik access your contacts so that you can find your friends that are already using the app.
For those that have already registered for Kik, they can tap the Login button as seen in the screenshot below.
- After you tap the login button you will notice a screen where you can enter in your email or username along with your password and hit enter.
- You may need to verify that you’re a real person by typing in letters that appear as an image on the screen. If you can’t read it, then tap on the circle arrow to the right to refresh the Captcha image.
- You will now be logged in to your account. If you have any existing conversations they will automatically appear, otherwise, you can tap the speech bubble at the top right to start texting.
Now that you have already gone through the login process, every time you close and open the app you won’t need to login every time. It will keep your email and password saved and it shouldn’t log you out. You may need to sign in again if you ever update the app or delete and download the app again.
Update: Are you an Apple fan, but you don’t have an iPhone? Kik is also available for the iPod touch. Use the steps above to look up Kik Messenger on the App Store, and check to see if it is available for your model of iPod. Of course, you’ll want to make sure that your iPod’s software is fully up to date, but these devices are pretty good about keeping themselves current.
Kik Messenger Login On Android
Now that you have a good sense of how to go through the process on an iPhone, I will walk you through the process on an Android device. In most cases, it is very similar so we won’t go into as much detail because it will be a lot of repetition.
Note, you must have Android version 2.2 (Froyo) or higher in order to install Kik Messenger on your device. Simply head over to the settings menu and tap the Update option to install the newest operating system.
Now, let’s get into the login guide:
- Head over to your Android Play Store and search for Kik Messenger. When it comes up with the results, tap the three dots to download and to install the app.
- When it is finished, you can open the app from the Play Store, go to your notifications and open it from there, or head over to the Apps icon to find Kik.
- Tap to open Kik and you will see a screen similar to the screenshot below.
- If you have already registered with Kik you can simply enter in your username or email, along with your password and tap the next button. If you haven’t, tap the Create New Account to enter your personal information and get an account.
Tip: if you forgot your password, tap the little “Forgot Password?” text and you will be guided through verification and allowed to change your login password to something else. There is no way to sign in if you don’t know either your username or email address you used to sign up for Kik, so make sure you remember one or both of those.
Kik Login For iPad
You may be asking yourself how to get Kik on your iPad and login to the app when you don’t even see it in the App Store. Luckily for you, it’s super easy, just takes a little trick that many people don’t know about. First, open your iPad and head over to the App Store. At the top right if you search for Kik Messenger, you won’t see it show up.
The reason it won’t show up is because it is an app that is built for iPhone not iPad. Therefore, it’s an iPhone only app. Simply tap where it says iPad Only at the top left (red circle below) and select iPhone Only. Now, you’ll be able to tap the download button and install the app onto your iPad.
Since the app is developed for the iPhone you will notice that it doesn’t use the entire screen. You can tap the 2x button to make the image bigger but that will make it a bit more pixelated. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait around until they make a version that is made specifically for iPads.
Kik Login For PC
You may have already gotten the app on your iPhone or Android but want to use the app on your Windows computer also so that you can continue your conversations on multiple devices. That’s totally reasonable and luckily, there is a way to do it easily and best of all, completely free.
The method I recommend is using an Android emulator called Andyroid, which has been acclaimed by a number of magazines and reviewers. It’s a relatively new emulator but has proven to be one of the most intuitive, user friendly, and stable out of the various options.
TIP: You will need a Google Play account for you to be able to download and install Kik on your Android emulator. If you don’t already have an account, make sure you sign up for one. You will also need to link an Android device to your account for you to be able to download it. There are several ways to do this with your friend’s Android device or with Andyroid.
- Head over to Andyroid and download the emulator.
- Once it’s downloaded, go through the installation steps that come up.
- You will need to sign into your Google Play account and may need to verify your account through email or text message.
- Once you have it up and running, it will look like the screenshot below.
- Tap on the Play Store icon at the bottom left (White bag with Google Play symbol).
- Now, click on the search icon at the top right of the Andyroid screen and search for Kik Messenger.
- When Kik shows up, click the install button and you will notice that it will begin to install onto your Apps folder.
- All you have to do is click the Open button next to Install once it’s finished.
- You will see the typical sign in screen for Kik Messenger. Simply enter in your personal email or username, along with your password and click next to login.
It’s as simple as that, you will now be able to sync all of your Kik conversations from your Android or iPhone to your PC and vice versa.
Update: Kik Messenger is now available for the Window’s Phone! The Windows Phone may not be as prevalent as the iPhones and Androids, but they’re based on Nokia hardware which is some of the best in the business, and offer a fully customizable user interface. Windows Phones have only gotten better with each generation, and now you can use this device to connect to Kik Messenger. Simply go to the “Store” app (if you haven’t put it on your home screen, simply swipe to the left to see the alphabetical list of apps). From there, just search for Kik Messenger, and you’re only seconds away from having everything all set up.
Kik Login For Mac
The concept is basically the same to get Kik on your Mac, really the only difference is what emulator you can use. Unfortunately, as of writing this, Andyroid still has their Mac version of the app on Alpha testing and not released to the general public yet. Therefore, it’s better to try another emulator such as BlueStacks, GenyMotion, or Manymo.
All three of these are good options to get Kik on your Mac, they have upsides and downsides. Even though this is on a Mac, you will still need a Google Play account to access the app to download it. From there, it is largely the same procedure as the one described above to login.
And of course, just like you would expect from an app this popular and useful, Kik is constantly being updated in order to keep up with your needs and demands. Recent tweaks and updates include a new design for photos, video, and web content, the ability to delete messages, and the ability to send video messages straight from your gallery!
